SPRING LAKE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 20, 2022) – Some quick thinking and a quick response helped a 51-year-old man from the Detroit suburbs survive a boat capsizing in the Grand River on Wednesday afternoon.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Jon Knott, his marine unit and other first responders were dispatched to an area near South and Prospect streets around 1:15 PM. That was where the man from Livonia had climbed on top of his 12-foot alumnium boat that had flipped over. He was the lone occupant and called for help after the craft floundered.
Crews were able to pull the boater to safety and to recover the vessel. He was treated at the scene for exposure to the cold waters.
No other details were immediately disclosed as the incident remains under investigation.
