He was preceded in death by his sons, Jamie and Brian. He was a member of Grace Community Church.
James was a charter member of Grace Church Intersection Ministries and retired from the maintenance department of Hope College.
James is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth; children, Jodi Becksvoort, Sally and Ryan Vander Haar; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Brett and Tricia Vander Haar, Renae and Stephen Anderson, Jenna Vander Haar, Cody and Kristen Becksvoort (Landon, Paxton), Derek Vander Weg; siblings, Mike and Elaine Becksvoort, Julia Stadt, Leona Scholten, Martha, and Jim Zylstra; in-laws, Barb Becksvoort, Joan Meeuwsen; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2022, at Yntema Funeral Home, 251 S. State St. Zeeland with Rev. Amy Klanderman officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Diabetes Association.
