LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 13, 2022) – The Ottawa County Road Commission has been honored with two statewide IMPRESS Awards by the County Road Association of Michigan. IMPRESS Awards recognize county road agencies that demonstrate innovation on notable projects in the categories of Communication, Operations and Collaboration. OCRC received an IMPRESS Award in Communication for “OCRC Infrastructure Project Dashboard;” and an Award in Operations for “PCRC Timber Bridge Project.”
For the Award in Communication, OCRC is making it easier for the public to know what was going on for the 2021 construction season through its OCRC Project Dashboard. The dashboard is a better way to visualize OCRC’s online list of upcoming projects, and to better integrate that information with an online map. OCRC plans to expand upon the dashboard in future construction seasons.
The Ottawa County Road Commission also took home an Award in Operations. OCRC crews utilized a unique approach in 2021 to replace an old bridge in Chester Township. Instead of replacing it with a new concrete structure, OCRC opted for a new timber bridge. Timber bridges have a lifespan of 50 years or longer, with minimal maintenance and a resistance to freeze/thaw cycles.
The awards were presented at CRA’s Highway Conference in early March. An independent panel of communications and operations experts from several of Michigan’s 83 county road agencies judged all IMPRESS Awards submissions.
