Each week, Shandra Martinez, managing editor of The Lakeshore, talks with morning news host Jared Fritsma about people and organizations making a positive difference along the Lakeshore. Listen to the full podcast:
Here are some highlights from their conversation on April 13!
- Michigan’s fastest-growing county remains committed to preserving farmland. Ottawa County is both the fastest growing county in the state and an agricultural powerhouse. The challenge is preserving farmland that also is in demand for housing developments. That’s where the county’s PDR program plays a pivotal role.
- GRCC plans open houses at main, Lakeshore campuses. Those who attend the events – planned for April 16 at the main campus and April 23 at the Lakeshore campus –- have a chance to win a $500 scholarship.
- Grand Haven’s Do More Good brings Cause Camp to West Michigan. The nonprofit leadership and marketing event Cause Camp has been nationally recognized by Forbes as a “must-attend” event for the nonprofit sector. It will take place at DeVos Center in Grand Rapids on May 2-3.
- Momentum Center Town Hall to explore racism and housing. The Momentum Center is hosting a virtual town hall on April 25 focusing on the impacts of racial inequities in housing. The speaker panelists include Anthony Lambers, Lyn Raymond, and Dale Zahn.
- Mission-minded? Consider a challenging career in municipal government. A career in municipal management is “the most pure form of public service I can think of,” says one longtime public administrator. Five village, township, and city managers in Northwest Ottawa County talk about the importance of their work.
