SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM. Apr. 11, 2022) – Some items of note are spotlighted in this evening’s Saugatuck’s City Council meeting.
One is a proposed renewal of the city’s agreement with the Allegan County Sheriff’s Department for police services. According to City Manager Ryan Heise in his pre-meeting documented briefing, the new deal addresses some housekeeping issues in the contract, the proposed cost increases are “reasonable,” and Heise’s office will look over the pact’s insurance requirements against the city’s current insurance coverage of riders. Saugatuck initially turned to the ACSD for policing three years ago after severing ties with the Douglas Police Department, claiming that the new arrangement would save around $220,000 annually.
Heise is also proposing approval of a third year of Milfoil treatment by Grand Rapids-based Aquatic Doctors Lake Management to rid the Kalamazoo Lake of this invasive species. The firm is holding up a deal with the City of the Village of Douglas until the Saugatuck City Council acts.
Finally, Council is expected to approve a re-designation of Saugatuck’s Social District that would, in part, activate the plan from a Labor Day to Memorial Day run to a seven-day-a-week, 52-weeks-a-year setup from 11 AM to 11 PM.
The Saugatuck City Council meeting is set for the second-floor meeting room at Saugatuck City Hall, beginning at 7 PM.
