MUSKEGON, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 8, 2022) – Two persons are in custody after a police pursuit resulted in a crash near Muskegon on Thursday night.
According to Michigan State Police, a sergeant stopped a SUV on Jefferson near Summit in Muskegon Heights around 8:20 PM. After the officer spotted a pistol in the pocket of a male passenger in the vehicle, the woman behind the wheel backed her vehicle into the police prowl car and drove off, disabling the police vehicle.
A second unit was able to pursue the SUV going eastbound on Pontaluna Road, and as the chase approached Grand Haven Road, the suspect vehicle was able to swerve around a small SUV that had been stopped in the middle of the intersection, but the pursuing police vehicle collided with it.
The suspect vehicle eventually crashed on the ramp to southbound US-31, and although the two occupants attempted to flee on foot, they were spotted and arrested a short time later without further incident. There were no injuries reported among the troopers involved in the chase or of the driver of the stopped vehicle that was hit during the pursuit.
The two suspects – a 22-year-old Lansing woman and a 24-year-old Muskegon man – are in the Muskegon County Jail awaiting arraignment on various charges stemming from the incident, as well as on outstanding warrants.
The matter remains under investigation.
