ZEELAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Apr. 3, 2022) – A effort to secure funding for a proposed expansion of Zeeland’s snow melt efforts in its downtown district could be taken on Monday evening.
During the scheduled City Council meeting, a public hearing on the city’s request for a $1 million state Community Development Block Grant, which would cover about a quarter of the over $4.1 million price tag for the project which would install snowmelt along Main Avenue, trom State Street to just east of Maple Avenue next summer, will be held prior to a vote on drafting such a request. According to Assistant City Manager Kevin Plockmeyer, the project would satisfy the grant requirements “quite nicely.”
The application must be filed by April 15th in order to have the competitive request heard by state officials.
Council will also vote approving a strategic action plan for the city, among other items, in the biweekly meeting set for 7 PM at Zeeland City Hall, after a 6 PM work-study session that includes a scheduled closed-door discussion with city attorney Jim Donkersloot.
