DETROIT, MI (WKZO AM/FM) – Andrew Copp scored the winner in overtime as the New York Rangers topped the Detroit Red Wings 5-4 Wednesday night.
Chris Kreider tied the game with a power play goal late in the third. New York improves to 93 points on the season.
The Red Wings’ losing streak is up to four games. Tyler Bertuzzi scored his 26th goal of the season for the Red Wings. Moritz Seider had two assists.
The Red Wings wrap up a two-game home stand against the Ottawa Senators tomorrow night.
The Red Wings and longtime Zamboni driver Al Sobotka have parted ways. He was best known for twirling octopi over his head after they were thrown on the ice by fans during the playoffs in the 1990s. A purple octopus mascot unveiled by the team in 1995 was named Al, after Sobotka.
Sobotka had worked with the organization since 1971, when the team played its games at Olympia Stadium.
