
Ken was born and raised in Holland. After graduation from Holland Christian High School, Ken served in the US Army.
During his life, Ken enjoyed success and was known for his work ethic in a variety of business settings.
He worked in the Business Office for Vogelzang Hardware and Appliance. For several years he served as the Business Manager at the Dumez Department Store in Holland. Many people from the area will remember Ken as the dedicated co-owner of Jackie’s Place Restaurant in Holland since 1985.
Ken was also active in serving the churches he belonged to throughout the years as an Elder and Consistory member.
He was a competitive person who enjoyed a variety of games and activities with family and friends. Ken was an avid sports fan. He learned patience as a loyal fan of the Detroit Lions and loved donning green and white cheering for the Michigan State Spartans.
Ken was a faithful, devoted, husband, father, and grandfather. He is dearly loved and will be deeply missed by those who survive, including his wife of 27 years, Kathy Kragt; children: Thomas A. (Carolyn) Kragt, Kenneth P. Kragt; grandchildren: Timothy A. (Patricia) Kragt, Elizabeth Myers, Rebecca (Andrew) DeBruyn, Jennifer (Eric) Ference, Stephanie (Chris) Fiebelkorn, Kenneth C. (Kendra) Kragt, and Clarence Kragt; and 6 great-grandchildren.
Stepchildren: R. Bryan (Lori) Melton, M, Kevin (Rachel) Melton, G. Phillip (Meg) Melton, and Denise R. Sternberg; step-grandchildren: Drew (Kelsey) Melton, Eric Melton, Geoff (Krystal) Melton, Jonathan Melton, Ross Melton, Autumn Melton, Ishmael (Lorene) Melton, Solomon Melton, Arianna (Kyle) Kennedy, Lamel Sternberg, Jr, Jeffery Sternberg; and 3 step-great-grandchildren.
Siblings: Sharon (Richard) Remmler Jan (Don) Smallegan; sister-in-law, Bonnie Kragt; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Ken was preceded in death by his first wife, Claire Helen (Tuls) Kragt in 1994; siblings: Leona Overweg, Donald Kragt, and Dave Kragt.
Visitation with the family will be held from 2:00 to 5:00 PM on Sunday, March 27, 2022, at Langeland-Sterenberg Funeral Home, 315 East 16th St. Holland, MI 49423. There will be an additional time of visitation from 11:00 to 11:45 AM on Monday, prior to the funeral service. Funeral services will be at 12:00 PM on Monday, March 28 at Central Wesleyan Church Worship Center, 446 West 40th St. Holland, MI 49423. Enter through door A (lots 1 & 2) or door I (lots 6 & 7).
