Mark Andree, age 61, passed away at home on Friday, March 11, 2022, from complications of congestive heart failure.
Mark was born and raised in Holland, graduated from Holland High School (Class of 1979) and Western Michigan University with a BA in Fine Arts. He worked in the cable industry for 30 years and retired from Comcast.
Mark lived his life with integrity and faith acknowledging the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ; his God-given faith gave him the courage to endure many years of surgeries and medical procedures needed because of radiation damage to his heart and lungs. In 2017, the community rallied to build Mark’s GoFundMe account to help with expenses for a heart transplant. Doctors later determined that Mark would not survive that surgery. The money raised has since been used for Mark’s continued medical and end-of-life expenses. We are thankful and grateful for the generous support of this community.
Prior to his health issues, Mark was an avid outdoorsman enjoying hiking, swimming, cycling, and weight lifting. He also enjoyed skiing, kayaking, fishing, and camping. He finished the Reed’s Lake Triathlon and competed in several 24-hour cycling challenges.
Mark was a watercolor artist and also created many art pieces using foil and acrylic paint; some of those pieces were chosen for several ArtPrize competitions. Mark built a beautiful wooden kayak (for cruising on Lake Michigan) and several tables for our home. He was very handy in completing home projects large and small. Mark loved his family and friends and his greatest joy was spending time with all of us.
Mark is survived by his wife of 27 years Brenda (Walker) Andree, sons Noah (Lisbeth Ramirez) and Drew; mother Mary K. Andree; siblings Katherine (Katie) Andree Blue (Todd Kolean), Elizabeth (Betsy) Bruins (Bob); brothers-in-law Kevin (Renae) Walker, Keith (Dana) Walker; sisters-in-law Pam (Phil) Merten, and Marcia Walker; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nephews. Mark was preceded in death by his father Robert (Bob) Andree in January 2021.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, March 18, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at the Dykstra Funeral Home – Northwood Chapel, 295 Douglas Avenue, Holland. A funeral ceremony will be held to celebrate Mark’s life and legacy on Saturday, March 19, at 12:00 pm, at Harderwyk Christian Reformed Church, 1627 West Lakewood Blvd, Holland.
