HOLLAND TWP, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 16, 2022) – Another disease is apparently on the rise in Ottawa County.
As health protocols dealing with COVID 19 are relaxed, the Ottawa County Department of Public Health issued an advisory on Tuesday afternoon about an increase in illnesses that have norovirus-type symptoms. However, the department didn’t disclose any specific numbers that would have led officials to issue this advisory.
This highly-contagious “stomach bug” spreads when someone touches surfaces contamined by human waste, and usually spreads quickly in enclosed settings such as schools, daycare centers and nursing homes. It can also mushroom in restaurants and catered meal settings when contaminated food is served or those serving the food are afflicted.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, norovirus is the most common cause of gastroenteritis nationwide, with over 80 percent of outbreaks occurring between November and April, and that an average person will come down with symptoms about five times during their lifetime.
More on dealing with norovirus is here.
