HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 15, 2022) – A 33-year-old man has been arraigned on a charge of resisting and obstructing stemming from a barricade situation at a home in a subdivision on Holland’s North Side.
Maurice Butler was able to post a $1,000 personal recognizance bond set on him by Holland District Court Judge Juanita Bocanegra on Tuesday and was released from the Ottawa County Jail.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Eric Westveer, deputies were dispatched around 3:40 PM on Monday to a residence in the 3700 block of East Traditions Way, in the vicinity of Quincy Street and 136th Avenue, on a report of a felonious assault. A woman claimed that a handgun was pointed at her by the suspect during a physicial altercation that apparently had begun earlier in the day, but she was able to break free, leave the home, and call for help.
When deputies arrived, the suspect barricaded himself inside with three young children and refused initial efforts to leave or follow any commands by the deputies. Crisis negotiators with the Sheriff’s Department were called in, and after what Westveer said were a few hours of negotiations, the suspect agreed to leave and was taken into custody without further incident. He and the children were reportedly unharmed, and the youths were given to the custody of their mother.
The investigation into a felonious assault complaint that led to this matter continues, according to Sheriff’s Detective Captain Jake Sparks.
