SAUGATUCK, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Mar. 8, 2022) – The Saugatuck City Council wants public input before asking for money from Lansing for a non-motorized trail development.
The 3 PM workshop session in the second floor meeting room at Saugatuck City Hall will focus on a proposed 1.14-mile stretch along the Blue Star Highway that would go along the bridge that spans the Kalamazoo River, connecting the Blue Star Trail in Douglas with a path along Lake Street in Saugatuck. The price tag for the project is just over $2.2 million, and a federal Transportation Alternative Program grant, administered by the state departments of transportation and natural resources, is being sought.
Later this month, the city councils of both Saugatuck and Douglas, as well as the Saugatuck Township Board, are expected to pass resolutions for formally submitting the grant applications, with state administrations to make a final decision in December.
