Larry Dale Johnson a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, 72 of Holland went to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday, February 28, 2022. He had a kind and gentle spirit.
Larry was born in Holland on March 13, 1949, to Jim and Jennie Johnson. Larry grew up in Graafschap and graduated from Hamilton High School in 1967. After graduating from Calvin College with a BA degree in Education and a minor in Religious Education, he married Bonnie Keen on May 28, 1971. Larry & Bonnie raised their two sons in Holland. His career was in sales and he enjoyed everyone he met. [LJ1]
Larry was a man of faith. Larry and Bonnie are members of Ridgepoint Community Church. Larry loved worshipping and serving in the church he attended. He enjoyed attending Praise Gatherings every year. Larry and Bonnie loved spending time together with family and friends at their cottage in northern Michigan.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Jennie Johnson, their son Matthew Scott Johnson, brother Jim and his wife Nancy Johnson, sisters-in-law Darthea Johnson and Janet Johnson, father and mother-in-law Bernard and Nellene Keen, brothers-in-law Ron Hooey and Darrell Wheeler.
He will lovingly be remembered by his wife of 50 years Bonnie, his children and grandchildren: Derick and Lexi Johnson of Grand Haven (Axel, Ian, and Izak Johnson) and Aaron and Jen Johnson of Pasadena, CA (Silas and Remi Johnson), siblings: Ron and Kaylene Johnson of Holland, Duane and Julie Johnson of Holland, and Ken and Toni Johnson of Avon, South Dakota, sisters-in-law: Pat Hooey of Saddlebrook, New Jersey and Jan Wheeler of Holland, and many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service to honor Larry’s faith and life will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, March 4, 2022, at Ridge Point Community Church, 340 104th Avenue, Holland, MI 49423. Rev. Michelle VanDenBerg will be officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim Home Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm, Thursday, March 3, 2022, at Dykstra Funeral Homes-Mulder Chapel, 188 West 32nd Street in Holland. Memorial contributions can be made to World Renew (formerly CRWRC) and Samaritan’s Purse. For those unable to attend the service, a live stream service will be available here on the web page.
