HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 25, 2022) – A painting bursting with color will be bursting forth during Holland’s annual signature event.
During a Thursday night “First Bloem” event at Warehouse 6, Tulip Time Festival Executive Director Gwen Auwerda announced that Kate Moynihan’s creation “Bursting with Color” has been chosen as the official poster for the 2022 event. “Her oil depiction of a bright, multi-colored tulip shows the beauty and diversity of not just Holland’s flowers, but of Holland’s people,” Auwerda explained in a festival statement. “We are thrilled with this year’s artwork. The piece is vibrant and reminds us that spring is just around the corner.”
Although it’s the second time that Moynihan’s work will adorn posters and other Tulip Time merchandise, it’s the first time that the now-retired gallery and framing owner has won this competition, as her 2004 work had been commissioned by the festival. “Bursting with Color” was chosen from among 20 finalists for the honor, as over 100 pieces were entered into the competition.
The other 19 works will now enter a “Viewer’s Choice” competition in which attendees to the festival will choose their favorite, with a winner announced on May 14th. The 93rd Tulip Time Festival runs from May 7-15.
Copies of Moynihan’s work, along with related merchandise, will go on sale shortly through the festival’s office on East 8th Street, as well as online.
