UNDATED (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 19, 2022) – Hope College won one outright MIAA basketball regular season title and shared another on Saturday following wins over Kalamazoo College.
At DeVos Fieldhouse, Evan Thomas scored 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds as the Flying Dutchmen secured first place alone in the league with a 71-55 win over the visiting Hornets. The two teams have a rematch in Holland on Tuesday night, with broadcast time at 6:40 PM on The Lakeshore’s 92 7 The Van.
In Kalamazoo’s Anderson Athletic Center, Kenedy Schoonveld tallied 18 points as the visiting Flying Dutch cruised past the Hornets, 94-23. Hope will have to share top honors with Trine and surrender full home court advantage in the conference tournament to the Thunder due to losing at home to the Angola school last month. The Orange and Blue open up post-season play on Wednesday evening at DeVos Fieldhouse against TBA (MIAA did not disclose opponent at time of this publishing).
Grand Valley State swept a basketball doubleheader from visiting Northwood at the Fieldhouse Arena on Saturday. Emily Spitzley tossed in 17 points as the Lakers won the women’s opener, 70-61. The men captured the nightcap from the visiting Timberwolves, 82-58, behind 17 points from Christian Negron. Both of GVSU’s teams battle the Wayne State Warriors in Detroit on Thursday night.
