LANSING, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 17, 2022) – A Holland man is among the 50 newest members of the Michigan State Police force.
In a Thursday ceremony presided by Governor Gretchen Whitmer, the graduates of the 140th Trooper Recruit School were sworn in by Colonel Joe Gasper, the State Police director. Justin Van Nuil was among those who went through rigorous training that began at the MSP Academy on August 21st, and upon graduation, he was initially assigned to the Niles post for the start of his new duties next week. This class boosts the Michigan State Police corps to 1,900 overall, with 1,200 assigned to various posts statewide.
The 141st class is slated to begin its training on March 6th, with a May 27th scheduled graduation, and state police officials say that, with hundreds of vacancies due to continued attrition, a 142nd Trooper Recruit School is in the works. More information on how to apply is here.
