WEST OLIVE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 16, 2022) – A different type of scam is apparently making the rounds in Ottawa County.
Some residents have notified authorities that persons impersonating county officials, seeking to verify voter participation in the November 6, 2020 General Election, have been knocking on doors, asking for information. County Clerk Justin Roebuck says that all the “verification” these people really need is available at his office. “The individuals had indicated that they were working with the county, and that is not the case,” he said on “WHTC Talk of the Town” during his monthly appearance on Wednesday. “Impersonation of an election official is against the law; knocking on folks’ doors is not against the law, but voters do not have to answer any questions that they feel uncomfortable answering.”
Anyone who may have been approached in this way are asked to contact the Clerk’s office (616-994-4535) or the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department (616-738-4000).
