MEN’S TRACK/FIELD
A ‘perfect combination’ is now a record-setting distance medley relay for the Hope College men’s indoor track and field team. The relay is one of the fastest in NCAA Division III, too. Freshman Connor Vachon, junior Nathan Trumble, sophomore Eli Meder, and senior Nick Hoffman, pictured left to right, topped the Flying Dutchmen’s old distance medley record on Saturday at the Grand Valley State University Big Meet. The converted time of 10 minutes, 00.74 seconds on GVSU’s oversized track at Kelly Family Sports Center topped the 2019 record by 26 seconds.
Junior Anders Bogard recorded two top-four efforts to lead the split-squad Hope College men’s indoor track track and field team at Aquinas College on Friday. He clocked a second-place 3,000-meter time of 9:16.94. In the 1-mile run, Bogard placed fourth at 4:31.67. He also ran on the fourth-place 4×400 relay. Hope finished fifth out of nine teams.
WOMEN’S TRACK/FIELD
Senior Jacinda Cole helped deliver a pair of Top 10 performances for the Hope College women’s indoor track and field team at Grand Valley State University’s two-day Big Meet. On Saturday, Cole clocked a ninth-place time 1-mile run of 5 minutes, 8.98 seconds. It was the fastest non-Division I run in the event. Cole also ran the opening leg of Hope’s 10th-place distance medley relay.
In her first indoor 800-meter race of the season, senior Heleyna Tucker clocked a second-place time of 2:29.61 for the split-squad Hope College women’s track and field team on Friday at Aquinas College. The Flying Dutch finished third out of nine teams as sophomore Olivia Quillan (3,000 meters) and freshman Greta Robrahn (shot put) also both finished runners-up in their events.
MEN’S BASKETBALL
The Hope College men’s basketball team overcame a slow start to the second half when 6-9 freshman Gabe Quillan scored seven of his career-high nine points and helped the Flying Dutchmen claimed an 84-70 victory on Saturday. Hope (16-6, 9-2 MIAA) plays at Kalamazoo College tonight at 7:30 p.m. and hosts Calvin University on Wednesday, Feb. 16 at 8 p.m.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
The third-ranked Hope College women’s basketball team cruised to a 94-44 victory at Olivet College on Saturday behind a team-high 15 points from junior Ella McKinney and 10 points from senior Olivia Voskuil. The Flying Dutch (21-1 overall, 13-1 MIAA) remain tied for first place with Trine University. Hope’s next game is Wednesday, Feb. 16, at Adrian College.
MEN’S TENNIS
Junior Jacob Burkett won his second consecutive match at No. 1 singles for the Hope College men’s tennis team during a 7-22 loss to Aquinas College on Friday at DeWitt Tennis Center. He downed Joel Hancox, 7-5, 6-2. The Flying Dutchmen earned their second point at No. 6 singles when senior Tyler Koran topped Jackson Vanbergen, 6-0, 6-1.
ACHA HOCKEY
The Hope College ice hockey team finished the regular season 27-0 after defeating Indiana University, 8-2 and 9-1 on Friday and Saturday, at Griff’s IceHouse West. Senior Lukas Schut made 19 saves on Saturday. Hope next plays in the Michigan Collegiate Hockey Conference Tournament semifinals on Saturday, Feb. 19 at Griff’s IceHouse Georgetown.
