WEST OLIVE, MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Feb. 9, 2022) – “Your opinion counts,” many pollsters like to say when they seek consumer input on surveys.
For the Ottawa County Department of Strategic Impact, the slogan is “Let the Analysis Begin!” The department, in collaboration with Merit Network, conducted a six-month-long canvas of area residents and businesses to “capture a more accurate picture of local high-speed internet access and connection speeds,” according to a county statement. It was part of a larger Comprehensive Digital Inclusion Strategy that seeks to establish universal access to affordable and reliable broadband throughout the county.
Now that they surveying is complete, Merit Network will soon present to various entities its findings, and the county DSI will then work with Urban Wireless Solutions to develop a feasibility analysis, a preliminary engineering design, and a cost model which can be presented to the county Board for consideration.
“We realize that our broadband plan is ambitious, and that there is a great amount of work still needing to be done,” DSI Director Paul Sachs said in a department statement. “The real hard work is beginning.”
No timetable has been announced for when the Board will see any such broadband proposals.
