Alvin J. Viening, age 87 of Holland, peacefully passed away on February 5, 2022.
Al was born in Holland, MI on May 31, 1934, to George and Clara Viening. He was the fourth oldest of nine children. He graduated from Holland High School and after graduation, started working for Western Foundry, where he worked for 47 years in multiple positions. Al was a lifetime member of First Reformed Church where he met his loving wife Beverly Kammeraad. The two were married in 1957 and had two children, Lori, and Todd. Over the years, the family took multiple camping trips which everyone enjoyed. Al specifically enjoyed camping, fishing, football, puzzles, and building model cars. One of his greatest hobbies, however, was music. He spent many years singing in the church choir, Windmill Chorus, and the Men’s Chorus. Most importantly was his love for his family, especially his grandchildren. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother, and will be deeply missed by all that knew him.
Al was preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years, Bev; grandson, Zachary Viening; great-granddaughter, Sage Arrendondo; brothers, Edward Viening, Raymond Viening, Randy Viening, and sister, Gertrude Hadaway.
He is survived by his children, Lori (Bruce) VanderVelde, Todd (Lori) Viening; grandchildren, Ashley VanderVelde (Hai VanMai), Tyler VanderVelde, Luke (Alyssa) Viening, Samuel Viening; great-grandchildren, Justin Arrendondo, Blaine Lamb, Emmaus Viening; brothers, Kenneth Viening, George (Elaine) Viening, Terry (Judy) Viening, Henry (Norma) Viening; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A visitation will take place on Thursday, February 10 from 6-8 pm at Dykstra Funeral Home – Mulder Chapel (188 W 32nd St. Holland). A funeral service will take place on Friday, February 11 at 1:00 pm at First Reformed Church (630 State St., Holland), with Rev. Dr. Daniel Gillett officiating.
