CROCKERY TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 29, 2022) – Two teens were injured in a two-vehicle crash on eastbound I-96 near Nunica on Saturday afternoon.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Matthew Wildfong, deputies and other first responders were dispatched to near the 11 mile marker around 3:45 PM on a report of a rollover crash. “The investigation shows that a 2016 Chevrolet Malibu was passing a 2017 Ford F150 pickup truck and was changing lanes, from right to left,” Wildfong explained in a department statement. “The Malibu hit the front of the pickup truck, causing the driver to lose control. The Mailbu went off the road and rolled several times.”
The driver of the sedan, a 17-year-old Coopersville man, and his 16-year-old female passenger suffered what was described as minor, non-life threatening injuries; the pickup driver, a 45-year-old Muskegon man, was not hurt. The freeway was closed for a time while the crash site was investigated and cleaned up. The Coopersville teen was ticketed for making “an unsafe lane change,” according to Wildfong.
