HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM, Jan. 26, 2022) – A 38-year-old Ionia woman found out the hard way on Wednesday afternoon that one cannot truly elude the long arm of the law.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Brad Bennett, the woman was driving a white SUV near Riley Street and West Shore Drive, just east of US-31, when a deputy attempted to pull her over for a traffic stop around 12:15 PM. “The white SUV failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated,” Bennett said in a department statement. “After a short distance, the pursuit was called off, but the white SUV continued west on Riley Street and caused a four-vehicle crash at 136th Avenue.”
The suspect was taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment of minor injuries, and was expected to be subsequently sent to the Ottawa County Jail to await arraignment in Holland District Court. No other motorists in the pileup were hurt.
Charges against the unnamed suspect will be determined by the Ottawa County Prosecutor’s Office based on the Sheriff’s Department’s investigation into this matter.
