OLIVE TWP, MI (WHTC-AM/FM – Jan. 25, 2022) – A five-vehicle pileup at an icy West Olive intersection on Wednesday morning led to the hospitalizing of a 63-year-old Allendale woman.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Matt Wildfong, deputies and first responders were dispatched to 120th Avenue near Taylor Street around 7:30 AM. “Investigation shows that traffic was slowing on southbound 120th Avenue when a vehicle was unable to stop on very icy roads. That vehicle hit another vehicle from behind, causing that vehicle to spin out into oncoming traffic, where it was hit by two other vehicles before coming to a stop in the middle of the road. The first vehicle continued forward and hit another vehicle before coming to a stop.”
The Allendale woman driving the second vehicle was taken to an undisclosed hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The four other drivers involved – a 24-year-old Commerce Township man, a 17-year-old man from Grand Rapids, a 23-year-old Zeeland man and a 23-year-old Holland man, were not hurt.
The intersection was closed for about an hour due to clean up efforts.
