Hope College’s Evan Thomas is the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men’s Basketball Athlete of the Week. The junior guard from Okemos, Michigan (Okemos HS) is receiving the honor for the fourth time this season and his career and for the second consecutive week. Thomas averaged 27.0 points and 11.0 rebounds over two Flying Dutchmen victories last week. The biology major shot 50 percent from the field (17-34), 57.1 percent from 3-point range (4-7), and 94.1 percent from the foul line (16-17).

Hope College’s Nick Hoffman has been chosen as the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week. The senior from Holland, Michigan (Holland HS) is claiming the honor for the third time in his career and for the first time this season. Hoffman clocked a school-record time in the 1-mile run of 4 minutes, 12.19 seconds on Grand Valley State University’s oversized track on Saturday at the Mike Lints Alumni Meet.

The Hope College indoor men’s track and field team placed first in four events, two apiece in field and running events, that propelled the Flying Dutchmen to a runner-up finish at the Aquinas College John Flaminio Classic on Friday. The Flying Dutchmen totaled 121 points. Senior David McHugh won the 400 meters and the triple jump. Junior Nathan Woolumn took first in the 200 meters. Junior Zach Elmore won the pole vault.

Four first-place efforts, including two in throws and two in running events, powered the Hope College indoor women’s track and field team to a second-place finish at the Aquinas College John Flaminio Classic on Friday. The Flying Dutch totaled 126.5 points. Junior Amelia Bont won the weight throw. Freshman Greta Robrahn took first in the shot put. Junior Grace Behrens won the 400 meters. Freshman Lauren Sysol was first in the 800.

Hope College freshman Conner Halberg is the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men’s Swimming Athlete of the week for the second time in his career. The native of Novi, Michigan (Northville HS) clocked first place finishes in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle for the Flying Dutchmen in the meet against No. 5-ranked University of Chicago.

Freshman Conner Halberg Clocked winning times in the 200- and 500-yard freestyle for the 18th-ranked Hope College men’s swimming and diving team during a 216.5-81.5 dual meet loss to fifth-ranked University of Chicago on Saturday at Holland Aquatic Center. Hope College freshman Sara Kraus is the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women’s Swimming Athlete of the week for the third time in her career. Hailing from Rockford, Michigan, Kraus placed in the top three in three events individually, and one with a medley relay on Saturday during a meet against ninth-ranked University of Chicago.

Senior Emma Schaefer and freshman Sara Kraus both won events for the 16th-ranked Hope College women’s swimming and diving team during a 224-76 dual-meet loss to ninth-ranked University of Chicago on Saturday at Holland Aquatic Center. Schaefer won the 400 individual medley and was second in the 200 breaststroke. Kraus won the 100 breaststroke and took second in the 200 backstroke and 400 IM.
ACHA HOCKEY
The top-ranked and unbeaten Hope College ice hockey team swept No. 2-ranked Grand Valley State University, 8-3 and 6-4, this weekend. The Flying Dutchmen improved to 21-0 overall. On Friday, senior Max Mones registered a hat trick, including two goals in a span of 43 seconds early in a five-goal first period at home. On Saturday, junior Mason Weiss scored the go-ahead goal late in the third period of a 6-4 road victory
