HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A Norton Shores man suffered minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash Tuesday morning, and the additional pain of two traffic tickets from an Ottawa County Sheriff’s deputy.
Deputies called to the scene at at 7:28 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2022, learned a 40-year-old Jenison man had been driving a 1997 Chevrolet truck near Chicago Drive and 56th Avenue in Zeeland Township. He slowed for traffic in front of him when a 2017 Chevrolet Cruz hit the truck.
Sheriff’s Sgt. Matt Wildfong indicated the Cruz’s driver, a 32-year-old Norton Shores man, told police he’d been eating while driving and didn’t notice traffic ahead slowing. He was injured, and went by ambulance to a nearby hospital for treatment of what police called minor, non-life-threatening injuries.
Police ticketed the Norton Shores man for failure to stop in an assured clear distance as well as for not wearing his seatbelt. The Jenison man was not physically hurt in the crash.
