HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Grand Rapids resident Aaron Michael Sawyer, 38, is in Ottawa County Jail facing charges of failing to stop at the scene of a property damager crash, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Capt. Jake Sparks.
Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the scene, at Baldwin Street at 28th Avenue in Georgetown Township just before 12:15 a.m. Dec. 9, 2021, where they found a two-vehicle crash.
No injuries were reported, but Sparks indicated that the driver of a black Ford Explorer fled the scene before police arrived.
Since that time, Sheriff’s detectives have attempted to identify the Explorer’s driver, who failed to report the crash to police.
Sawyer’s case, turned over the Ottawa County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office on Jan. 6, 2022, has resulted in charges, which carry penalties of 90 days in jail and fines up to $100. Sawyer is set to be arraigned in the 58th District Court in Hudsonville in the near future.
