HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Ottawa and Allegan counties have several qualities in common, and the latest is the doubling in the number of people being diagnosed with some form of COVID-19.
Ottawa County’s daily average number of people being diagnosed at 347; Allegan’s is at 107. Deaths continue to rise, with Ottawa’s total, so far, at death toll is at 667; Allegan’s is 290 people.
State health officials added 40,692 people to the COVID-19 rolls for Thursday and Friday, and documented another 259 more deaths from the virus. Nearly 28,000 Michigan residents have died since the pandemic hit the state in March, 2020.
The bulk of the people being treated for severe COVID-19 at area hospitals are not vaccinated.
Spectrum Health’s dashboard shows 390 patient admitted with severe severe COVID-19 symptoms, including 17 children, five of whom who are in the intensive-care unit.
Holland Hospital has 29 patients admitted for treatment. The hospital’s dashboard now shows deaths since vaccines became available at 62 people; 55 had been unvaccinated. Current visitor restrictions:
- All inpatients are allowed one adult visitor that will remain the same for the duration of the patient’s stay
- Boven Birth Center patients are allowed one designated support person.
- Visitors for COVID-19 patients, and any others in isolation due to infection precautions, will wear appropriate PPE at all times, as directed by staff, and must remain in the patient’s room throughout their visit.
- Patients under 18 are allowed two parents or guardians.
- No children under the age of 16 are allowed to visit.
- Regardless of vaccination status: All visitors must be screened upon arrival. Anyone with a COVID diagnosis or exposure to COVID within the last 5 days, or with COVID symptoms, will not be allowed to visit. Anyone exhibiting COVID symptoms will be advised to seek medical care.
- All visitors must wear a hospital provided mask and follow posted safety and behavioral guidelines at all times. Anyone not following guidelines or acting in an uncivil manner will be asked to leave the building. Security will be notified if necessary.
