ALLENDALE TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Drivers in a two-vehicle crash south of Allendale were injured on Thursday (Dec. 30, 2021) evening.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Jon Smoes, deputies and first responders were dispatched to the intersection of Fillmore Street and 68th Avenue around 5:30 PM. “An investigation at the scene showed that a 28-year-old man from Bailey, driving a black Honda Accord, was eastbound on Fillmore Street and stopped for the stop sign,” Smoes said in a department statement. “After completing his stop, the man began turning north onto 68th Avenue when a 34-year-old woman from Jenison, in a silver Honda Accord westbound on Fillmore Street, failed to stop for her stop sign, striking the other vehicle on the passenger side.”
The woman was taken to an undisclosed “local hospital” for treatment of what Smoes called “non-life threatening” injures, while the man refused treatment at the scene for “minor” injuries. The crash remains under investigation.
That Fillmore Street-68th Avenue “T” intersection, which has seen what Ottawa County Road Commission officials say is an “above average crash experience” and has “increasing traffic volumes,” had a “All-Way STOP” control implemented in October. Previously, traffic on Fillmore had the right of way, with only a stop sign for 68th Avenue at that location.
