JAMESTOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 40-year-old Grand Rapids man is in St. Mary’s Hospital following a single-vehicle crash on I-196 east of Hudsonville on Saturday (Dec. 31, 2021) evening.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Michael Hallmeyer, deputies and first responders were dispatched to the westbound lanes of the Interstate near the 63 mile marker, with a note from witnesses that CPR was in progress. “Our investigation at the scene determined that the driver had been driving his white Lincoln sedan westbound when he veered off the roadway,” Hallmeyer said in a department statement. “He struck a variety of small trees and sign posts before coming to rest near the ditch, on the north side of the roadway. Our investigation also suggests a medical incident precipitated the crash off the roadway.”
No further details as to the motorist’s identity or condition were immediately disclosed. Hallmeyer has encouraged those with any information or who witnessed the incident to please call the Ottawa County Central Dispatch (800-249-0911), the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Department (616-738-400) or Silent Observer (877-88-SILENT)
