Elizabeth Jean Derks was born May 9, 1926, to Edward and Helen Wolters in Holland Michigan. Married to Donald Marvin Derks for 60 years.

When it came to relationships, Bette was a consummate bridge-builder, always cheery and friendly. She loved sharing her home-making crafts, yet while an avid gardener and master in the kitchen, she constantly was decorating some part of the house. Bette with her husband, Don converted her ancestors homestead hay-barn into a fun summer home getaway in Borculo. She was the ideal hostess, from pool parties for the grandkids to Christian charities, missionaries, and pastors passing through their Boca Raton home, she loved to share her gift of hospitality. The highlight of her life was being guest-of-honor at Bette’s own 3-day 90th birthday and decreed as “Bette Derks Day” by the Mayor of Hendersonville, NC. Bette’s life showed her love for her family, friends, and her Savior.

Elizabeth is survived by her seven children: Carol J. Norris, Linda K. Derks, Patricia A. (Steven D.) Saunders, Nancy E. Vincent, James A. (Helene) Derks, Deborah M. (Floyd R.) Machiela and David M. Derks, 12 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

Betty was predeceased by her husband and grandson, Andrew J. Derks.

A visitation will be held at Lakeshore Memorial, 11939 James St. Holland Michigan on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at 6:00 p.m. followed by funeral service at 7:00 pm with retired Rev. Ken Gensler officiating. Interment will be at Rest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
