HOLLAND, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) -The budget-making process begins for the City of Holland next week.
The two “Coffee with City Council” sessions are meant, according to a city statement, “for residents to share their ideas, remarks and concerns regarding current issues relating to the City of Holland with City of Holland elected and appointed officials” ahead of the preparation of the Fiscal 2023 budget in an relaxed, interactive, informal setting. If Nicki Arendshorst was not a first-term fourth ward council member, and was instead just a constituent, what would she be asking these “elected and appointed officials?”
“We have a new traffic light at West 12th Street at River Avenue,” she said during a recent appearance on “WHTC Morning News.” “I would think about having crosswalks further down Washington Avenue. There are some apartment buildings closer to West 40th Street and Washington, a lot of people live there, and to me, there needs to be extra safety measures there.
“We are a car-centric city, a car-centric country; let’s think about pedestrians.”
The “Coffee with City Council” sessions are on Wednesday, January 5th, from 5 to 6 PM in Council Chambers at Holland City Hall, and on Saturday, January 8th, from 9 to 11:30 AM at the Heeringa Holland Civic Center Place. Light refreshments will be on hand, and translators will be available upon request.
By city statute, council needs to have a spending plan for the upcoming fiscal year in place by early May.
