HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Officials at the Michigan Maritime Museum announce the museum will receive a $55,000 grant from Entergy.
“We are proud to recognize the support of Entergy as they re-invest in a community and region we both serve. We cannot move forward without acknowledging how far we’ve come and who helps us get here,” said Museum Executive Director Patti Reinert, in a statement emailed to the media. “Thank you, Entergy, for believing in us then and helping light the way into our future. “
The money will be applied to the Launching a Legacy capital campaign. The museum and Entergy have connections dating back to the museum’s previous building, formerly Entergy’s Palisades Nuclear Power Plant visitors center in Covert.
The Museum paid $1 for that building, and used it for the next 36 years.
Because museum officials want to add space for exhibits, classrooms, offices and mixed-use activities, they are building a new facility on the same site. The former visitors center was demolished in September.
The Maritime Heritage Center construction is underway, with an estimated summer, 2022, completion date. So far, $7 million — 88 percent of the construction cost — has been raised.
Museum officials continue fundraising to support the non-profit’s future. Learn more at michiganmaritimemuseum.org/launching-a-legacy.
