John Van Den Berge age 78, of Holland, died Wednesday, December 15, 2021.
He was a member of Central Avenue Christian Reformed Church and drove truck for Gritter Brother’s Eggs and then for Louis Padnos until his retirement. John umpired softball for many years through the Holland Recreation Dept. He was an avid sports fan with Michigan his favorite. John loved spending the Michigan winters at their home in Florida for many years during his retirement until his health started to deteriorate and they could no longer go. John absolutely loved spending time with his family, especially the visits from the grandkids.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Ryan Prins, and a brother Willard Van Den Berge.
The family John deeply loved survives him. His wife of 57 years, Karen; daughters, Shelly and Mark Prins, Lisa and Doug Van Kampen; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Katie and Adam Van Den Beldt ( Rylan, Paisley, Beckett), Matthew and Amanda Prins (Bromley, Mackeneleigh, Bentley, Huxlee), Brandon and Kelly Van Kampen, Brinslea and Cameron Kruse (Bristol), Collin Van Kampen, Bria and Seth Parker, Aliya and Caleb Walters, Logan Van Kampen; siblings, Gus and Jean Van Den Berge, Elsa and Herschel Essink, Lyla Vanden Berg; in-laws, Mary and Chet Dreyer, Bill and Barb Habers; several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 21, 2021, at Central Avenue Christian Reformed Church, 259 Central Ave. Holland with Rev. Chad Steenwyk officiating. Burial will take place prior to the service in Pilgrim Home Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 12:00 until 1:15 p.m. just prior to the service at the church. Memorial contributions may be given to /focus on the Family and the Alzheimer’s Association
