HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Holland firefighters rescued a woman from a smoke-filled home Saturday morning, according to an email from Fire Capt. Chris Tinney.
Firefighters were dispatched to 174 W. 10th St. at 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021, on the report of a woman trapped in a burning home. She was unable to get out on her own, Tinney said, because of a physical condition. She went by AMR Ambulance to Holland Hospital for evaluation and treatment. A man inside the home had been able to escape without injury, according to Tinney.
“Two Holland police officers on scene were instrumental in identifying where the female occupant was so that crews could quickly affect her safe removal from the home,” Tinney’s note about the fire said, in part.
Firefighters traced the smoke to a fire in a confined area of the basement, possibly involving the home’s electrical service, and Tinney indicated they limited the damage to the degree that the residents will be able to return home within a week or so. He indicated a tree that fell outside during Saturday’s windstorms caused the issue.
In addition to Holland police and AMR, the Holland Department of Public Safety victims services unit assisted at the scene an Hamilton firefighters provided mutual aid by covering any other calls while Holland firefighters were at 174 W. 10th St., according to Tinney’s note.
