HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Two women were hurt in a crash when one ran a red light on U.S. 31 and Felch Street. The crash sent electric lines into the road, causing police to shut north- and southbound lanes for safety’s sake during the response and investigation.
The crash happened, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Chris Dill, when a 20-year-old Holland Township woman, driving a 2014 Toyota sedan, ran the red light at US 31 as she was headed east on Felch Street. A 25-year-old woman, who had been driving a 2007 Jeep north on US 31, was unable to avoid hitting the Toyota.
The force of the crash sent the Toyota into a nearby power pole, breaking the pole and sending live electric lines into the road, which cut power to the area.
The Holland Township woman hadn’t been wearing a seatbelt, according to Dill, and went by ambulance to Holland Hospital for a treatment of a head injury.
The Holland woman went to Holland Hospital for an evaluation of her injuries, according to Dill.
US-31 remains closed at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2021, as a Consumers Energy crew works to restore service.
