ZEELAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – Two separate collisions involving three vehicles snarled a busy intersection west of Hudsonville for over an hour on Saturday night (Dec. 4, 2021).
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Michael Hallmeyer, deputies and first responders were dispatched to 48th Avenue north of Chicago Drive (M-121) around 9:40 PM on a report of a three-vehicle personal injury crash. “This generated a large emergency response,” Hallmeyer said in a department statement. “Upon arrival, it was determined there were actually two separate crashes – a one-car property damage crash and a two-car personal injury crash.
“Our investigation at the scene determined a white Chevy Mailbu had been southbound on 48th Avenue when it lost control and crashed into a field on the west side of the road. A bystander in a silver pickup stopped to offer assistance, partially blocking the southbound lane. A brown Volvo S60 was southbound on 48th Avenue when he veered into the northbound lane, in an attempt to avoid a collision with the silver pickup. He crashed into a black Ford Fusion, which was northbound on 48th Avenue.”
The 16-year-old Jenison girl driving the black car sustained minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene. The other two motorists were not hurt, and the Volvo driver, a 65-year-old Hudsonville man, was ticketed for careless driving.
Hallmeyer added that the section of roadway was closed for over an hour as a result of the incident.
