WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
Led by All-American junior Ana Tucker, the Hope College women’s cross country team recorded one of the best finishes at the NCAA Division III Championships on Saturday at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Kentucky.
The Flying Dutch moved up two spots from the national ranking coming into the meet, finishing eighth out of 32 teams with a total of 346 points. It was Hope’s fifth Top 10 finish at nationals. Tucker placed 11th in the 6K race with a time of 21 minutes, 15.5 seconds.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
The top-ranked Hope College women’s basketball team took down Finlandia University, 94-56, and No. 21-ranked Baldwin Wallace University (Ohio), 83-55, at the Hope Tournament over the weekend. Evan Thomas, pictured, powered the Hope College men’s basketball team to a 72-63 non-league victory at Benedictine University (Ill.), on Saturday by scoring 20 of his game-high 26 points in the second half. Thomas shot 93.3 percent from the foul line (14-15) and also led the Flying Dutchmen in rebounds with nine. Tyler George and Jeff Bikus added 16 and 11 points, respectively. Hope (2-1) hosts the Grand Rapids Sports Hall of Fame Classic on Friday-Saturday, Nov. 26-27, and will play at 8 p.m. each night.
MEN’S SWIM/DIVE
Freshman Colin Kalkman and the Hope College men’s swimming and diving team finished fourth at the Kenyon College Invitational in Gambier, Ohio. Kalkman, pictured, joined the Flying Dutchmen’s All-Time Top 10 in four events. Sophomore Conor East moved into sixth all-time for Hope for the individual medley all-time Top 10. Senior Kamaron Wilcox finished second place in the 1-meter diver with 451.60 points for a NCAA Division III regional qualifying cut.

The senior from Ada, Michigan / Forest Hills Central recorded an NCAA Division III regional qualifying cut in 1-meter diving during a second-place finish at the Kenyon College (Ohio) Total Performance Invitational last week.
Hope College sophomore Connor East is the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Men’s Swimming Athlete of the week for the first time. The native of Farmington Hills, Michigan (North Farmington HS) clocked two of the Top 10 times in Hope history during the Kenyon College (Ohio) Total Performance Invitational last week.
WOMEN’S SWIM/DIVE
Two new school records highlighted the Hope College women’s swimming and diving team’s performance last week as the Flying Dutch placed fourth at the Kenyon College (Ohio) Invitational. Freshman Sara Kraus, pictured, set a new 200 IM record with a swim of 2:03.55. Hope also clocked a school-record 200 medley relay of 1:44.05 that included Kraus, senior Emma Schaefer, junior Alyssa Kerkman, and sophomore Madeline Tessin.
Hope College sophomore Sophia Farbarzhevich has been selected as the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women’s Diving Athlete of the Week. The Spanish major posted a NCAA Division III regional qualifying score and finished runner-up in 1-meter diving at the Kenyon College (Ohio) Total Performance Invitational last weekend with a total of 412.85 points.
Hope College freshman Sara Kraus has been named the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Women’s Swimming Athlete of the Week. The native of Rockford, Michigan (Rockford HS) set a school record in the 200-yard individual medley and swam a leg in a school-record 200 medley relay at the Kenyon College (Ohio) Total Performance Invitational last week.

Senior Nick Hoffman, pictured, of the Hope College men’s cross country team competed in the NCAA Division III Championships on Saturday at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Kentucky. Hoffman finished his cross country career with a 152nd finish in the 8K race with a field of 289 runners. Hoffman recorded a time of 25 minutes, 5.7 seconds.
ACHA HOCKEY
The No. 1-ranked Hope College hockey team defeated Calvin University twice over the weekend with wins of 3-1 and 4-1. Juniors Mason Weiss and Gabe Gunneson each collected four points for the Flying Dutchmen (14-0). Weiss recorded one goal and three assists. Gunneson had four assists. Freshman goalie Maclane Schick stopped 23 of 25 shots during the ACHA series.
