HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Holland police detectives are looking for tips from the public after a stabbing Saturday afternoon in Centennial Park.
It started with a fight near 12th Street and South River Avenue, according to HDPS Capt. Keith Mulder, and police called to the scene found a 36-year-old Holland man on the ground, bleeding from a wound to the back.
Detectives were able to find a video of the incident that showed three suspects fleeing on bicycles.
Holland police officers and an Ottawa County Sheriff’s K9 unit were able to track and detain one suspect. Holland police officers found the two other suspects at an area home shortly after that, according to Mulder.
All three suspects, juveniles, were questioned by HDPS detectives.
So far, police have collected reports that the man “had a verbal exchange with three male juveniles prior to the assault,” according to an HDPS statement posted on the city’s HDPS website.
Then, according to police, the Holland man was hit in the face “several times and was stabbed.”
He went by ambulance to Holland Hospital with injuries to the face and back, and has since been transferred to Spectrum Health Butterworth for further treatment.
One of the suspects in custody faces charges of assault with intent to do great bodily harm and a probation violation, according to police . A second suspect is being held on unrelated charges, according to Mulder.
Detectives are still looking for additional witnesses who reportedly witnessed the assault, which remains under investigation.
