HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — A South Haven man is in critical condition after being electrocuted at a home-construction site in Blendon Township, according to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sgt. Chris Dill.
Sheriff’s deputies were called to the scene at 7000 block of Taylor Street just after 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 4, 2021, along with Blendon Township firefighters and a LIFE Ambulance EMS crew.
There, police learned the 56-year-old South Haven man, operating a long-arm boom truck at a home construction site hit some overhead electric wires with the boom.
The collision caused a fire on the truck. The man was electrocuted while trying to mitigate the problem. He was rushed by LIFE EMS to Spectrum Butterworth in critical condition. No other injuries were reported.
A Consumer’s Energy crew responded to de-energize the wires, allowing firefighters to safely extinguish the truck fire.
This incident remains under investigation by the sheriff’s office, according to Dill.
