HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — Ottawa County Sheriff’s officials are investigating a fatal crash in Grand Haven Township.
Grand Haven Township firefighters discovered the crash at 5:17 a.m. Sunday, Oct. 31, 2021, after being called to the report of a tree fire caused by a downed power line in the woods near the intersection of 144th Avenue and Rich Street.
Firefighters found a single-vehicle crash had caused the fire, and it was too late to save the vehicle’s sole occupant. It appears, according to police, that the driver failed to fully stop at the T intersection and may have been speeding. The vehicle hit a large tree and spun forward, stopped well inside the woods, where fire consumed it.
Identification of the deceased is pending, police said. other injuries were discovered or reported. The crash remains under investigation.
