GEORGETOWN TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A single-vehicle crash near Jenison hospitalized a five-year-old boy on Tuesday (Oct. 5, 2021) evening.
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Michael Hallmeyer, deputies and first responders were dispatched to the intersection of Pinewood Street and Crestview Avenue around 5:15 PM on a report of a one-vehicle crash with a child trapped underneath the vehicle. “Our investigation determined a Toyota Sienna had been parked in the driveway of a nearby residence,” Hallmeyer said in a department statement. “The five-year-old male was inside the vehicle and bumped the shifter, which caused the vehicle to roll backwards into a yard on the north side of Pinewood Street.
“At some point, while the vehicle was rolling, the male exited the vehicle and became trapped underneath when the vehicle came to a stop. He was freed from underneath the vehicle by bystanders and transported to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.”
No other persons were involved or injured, Hallmeyer added, and there was no damage to any property as the incident remains under investigation.
