GRAND HAVEN, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 41-year-old man is in Ottawa County Jail and his vehicle has been seized by police, after Sunday’s hit-and-run incident in Robinson Township.
“Deputies received a tip (on Monday) that led investigators to an address in the City of Grand Haven,” Ottawa County Sheriff’s Captain Jake Sparks wrote in a statement emailed to the media. “A vehicle was located at that residence that matched the description given by witnesses as being involved. The white Ford F-150 at the address also had recent damage consistent with evidence found at the scene of the crash.”
Sheriff’s Sgt. Nicholas Knott indicated a 72-year-old Spring Lake man had been walking west on the shoulder of Green Street, in front of Felix’s Marina, 14023 Green Street, just before 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2021, when the vehicle struck him from behind and sped off. The victim went by ambulance to North Ottawa Community Hospital.
Sparks indicated the man “remains hospitalized and is being treated for broken bones and internal injuries, but is expected to recover.”
Sparks didn’t disclose much information about the suspect other than it was a 41-year-old man. “The investigation is continuing into the incident,” the captain said. “At the completion of the investigation, detectives will consult with the Ottawa County Prosecutor’s Office for appropriate criminal charges.”
