HOLLAND (WHTC-AM/FM) — The suspect in the Aug. 15 hit-run death of Kentwood resident Valerie May Batema, 36, has been arraigned and named.
Ottawa County Sheriff’s Capt. Jake Sparks announced the driver had turned himself in to police on Aug. 26, but did not release the suspect’s name, pending formal charges.
Holland Township resident Jack Chul-Min Bankson, 39, now stands charged with failing to stop at the scene of a personal injury accident and operating without an ignition interlock device. An ignition interlock device aims at preventing someone from driving after they’ve been drinking.
Bankson’s bond was set at $5,000 cash by 58th District Court Judge Judith Mulder during his arraignment Thursday, Sept. 29, 2021.
The crash, at the I-196 business loop, just east of 84th Avenue in Zeeland Charter Township, happened at 1:30 a.m.
