MEN’S SOCCER
The Hope College men’s soccer team scored its fastest goal of the season, paving the way for a 4-1 non-league victory against Olivet College Wednesday night at Van Andel Soccer Stadium. Senior Griffin Bruso scored 7 minutes, 15 seconds into the game for a 1-0 lead. The Flying Dutchmen never trailed and went on to raise their overall record to 6-2-1. Hope’s game on Saturday, Oct. 2, against Wisconsin-Platteville, has been canceled. The Flying Dutchmen next will play on Tuesday, Oct. 5, at 7 p.m. at home against Adrian College in the MIAA opener.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
Erin Powers picked a good time to score her first goal of the season. The Hope College junior drilled a low shot into the net 11 minutes into the game to help the Flying Dutch beat North Central College (Ill.), 3-0, on Wednesday. Hope, which also received goals from senior Sarah Mikesell and sophomore Madison Holloway, improved to 6-2. The shutout is the Flying Dutch’s fifth of the season. The Flying Dutch’s next game is Saturday, Oct. 2, at noon at Saint Mary’s College in Notre Dame, Ind. It is the MIAA opener for both teams.
WOMEN’S GOLF
The Hope College women’s golf team won an MIAA Jamboree for the third time this season on Tuesday by shooting a winning score of 328 at the Flying Dutch’s course at Clearbrook Golf Club in Saugatuck. Junior Grace VanDellen claimed medalist honors with a 6-over-par 78. Hope takes a 26-stroke lead into the fourth MIAA Jamboree of the season on Saturday, Oct. 2, at 1 p.m. hosted by Calvin University, at Thornapple Pointe Golf Club in Grand Rapids.
VOLLEYBALL
The sixth-ranked Hope College volleyball team rallied for a five-set victory at Albion College on Wednesday. The Flying Dutch took the final two sets, 25-23 and 15-10, to extend their winning streak to nine games. Sophomore Maggie Wehrmeyer helped the Flying Dutch by recording a match-high 26 digs. Hope is now 13-1 overall and 3-0 in MIAA play heading into a non-league game at fourth-ranked Calvin University on Saturday, Oct. 2, at 3 p.m. in Grand Rapids.
WOMEN’S TENNIS
The Hope College women’s tennis team concluded its fall play with a 6-1 victory at Spring Arbor University on Monday. Senior Sydney Jackson claimed points at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles for the Flying Dutch. Hope won two of the top three doubles matches and five of the top six singles flights.
MEN’S TENNIS
The Hope College men’s tennis team lost its fall opener at Northwood University, 6-1, on Wednesday. The Flying Dutchmen won the doubles points with victories from the teams of Tyler Stafford and Paul Washington, and Cameron Coates and Tyler Koran. Hope plays at the ITA Central Regional on Friday-Saturday, Oct. 1-2, in Kalamazoo.
