HOLLAND TWP., MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – A 29-year-old Holland man suffered critical injuries after being hit by a vehicle overnight (Sept. 29, 2021).
According to Ottawa County Sheriff’s Sergeant Michael Hallmeyer, deputies and first responders were dispatched to US 31 just north of East 8th Street around 11:30 PM on a report of a car-pedestrian collision. “Initial reports were that the suspect vehicle had fled the scene, but this was found to be incorrect,” Hallmeyer wrote in a department statement. “Our investigation determined that a 29-year-old male from Holland had walked into the roadway to retrieve a gas grill, which had fallen out of the bed of his pickup. A southbound car, driven by a 63-year-old female from Holland, collided with the male as he was in the roadway.”
The man was first taken to Holland Hospital and then transferred to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids in critical condition. Neither the driver, nor a 59-year-old Holland woman who was a passenger in her vehicle, were hurt.
The incident remains under investigation.
