Merle A. Boerman, age 78 of Holland, passed away September 27, 2021, at his home.
Merle was born in Zeeland, MI to Melvin and Annette Boerman. He served 4 years in the Navy and was an active member of the VFW. Merle and his wife Alma, operated the Hitching Post restaurant for 17 years which was on the corner of 10th and River. He enjoyed riding his bike, roller skating, woodworking, and spending time in Fort Myers, Florida. Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
Merle is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Alma DeFeyter-Brink-Boerman; children, Linn (Laurie) Boerman, Kristi (Luis) Saldivar; grandchildren, Brandy (Dave) Iacopelli, Ryan (Spencer) Saldivar, Brooke (Ben) Emeott, Rhee Saldivar; great-grandchildren, Joseph Iacopelli, Peter Iacopelli, Brayden Saldivar, Sofia Saldivar, Bella Saldivar, Clayton Saldivar, Drake Emeott, Dason Emeott; sisters, Sandra (Ken) VandenBrink, Sharon Borgman; sisters-in-law; Mary Ann Deleski, Jan DeFeyter, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A visitation will take place on Friday, October 1 from 1-3 p.m. with military honors taking place at 3:00 p.m. at Dykstra Funeral Home – Northwood Chapel (295 Douglas Ave, Holland).
