GEORGETOWN TWP>, MI (WHTC-AM/FM) – The drivers involved in a two-vehicle crash south of Jenison were hospitalized following a wreck during the Monday morning (Sept. 27, 2021) commute.
According to Sheriff’s Sergeant Chris Koster, deputies and first responders were dispatched shortly before 8 AM to the corner of 8th Avenue and 44th Street. “The investigation showed that a vehicle was waiting in the left turn lane to turn from northbound 8th Avenue to westbound 44th Street,” Koster said in a department statement. “The driver, a 33-year-old Byron Center man, advised that the light had turned yellow, and he did not see any other vehicles, so he started to make his turn, hitting a southbound vehicle on 8th Street coming through the intersection. Witnesses at the scene advised the light had turned yellow, with the second vehicle going through the intersection as the first vehicle turned in front of it.”
The Byron Center man was taken to Spectrum-Butterworth Hospital, while the other driver, a 31-year-old Grand Rapids woman, went to Spectrum-Zeeland Community Hospital. Both had sustained, according to Koster, non-life threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
