WASHINGTON (WHTC-AM/FM) – Two elementary schools along the Lakeshore are among 13 statewide, and 325 across the nation, who have earned 2021 National Blue Ribbon School recognition from the US Department of Education.
Lakeshore Elementary School in the West Ottawa district, and Douglas Elementary School in the Saugatuck district, were honored for their “overall academic performance or progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups,” according to a DOE statement on Tuesday (Sept. 21, 2021).
“This year’s cohort of honorees demonstrates what is possible when committed educators and school leaders create vibrant, welcoming and affirming school cultures, where rich teaching and learning can flourish,” said US Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona in that department statement.
