WASHINGTON (WHTC-AM/FM) – The southern border situation continues to be a problem in Washington.
Scenes of US Border agents on horseback chasing down Haitian migrants near Del Rio, Texas has sparked outrage from many quarters, even from the White House. Several thousand have descended there, seeking asylum from the Caribbean nation that has been reeling from natural disasters and political unrest. In one of those images, an agent appears to be swinging a whip or a cord, yelling at those migrants to get back into neighboring Mexico.
According to 18-term US House Representative Fred Upton, this matter is just the latest in an ongoing series of events that spotlights the lack of addressing immigration reform in Washington.
“We haven’t done our job,” the St. Joseph Republican said on “WHTC Morning News” during his weekly appearance on Tuesday (Sept. 21, 2021). “It needs to be bipartisan, it needs to happen. We need to have a process instead of one which has people line up and come from wherever into this country.”
Presidential Press Secretary Jen Psaki said that she “can’t imagine how that would be appropriate,” and the US Department of Homeland Security says it will investigate this incident.
